The Lower Salford Township Authority located in Harleysville PA, is seeking a full-time licensed wastewater plant operator. The Authority operates two activated sludge treatment plants, pump stations and collections system.

Position Description:

The Wastewater Plant Operator position is responsible for the daily operations, maintenance and repairs of the treatment plants, pump stations and collection system to ensure an efficient and safe operation. The position reports to the Authority’s Operations Manager.

The individual must be proficient with pump operations, laboratory equipment and instrumentation, chemical feed systems, solids dewatering and control systems. Must be proficient with the use of power and hand tools. Must display the ability to work independently and problem solve.    


High school diploma or equivalent.

Pennsylvania Wastewater Operator Certification Class C Subclass 1 or higher is required.

Valid driver’s license.

Must be able to work weekends, holidays and respond to emergency calls on a rotating schedule.

Must be capable of lifting and or carrying 50 lbs or more, walking up and down stairs, climbing, and working in confined areas.

Experience with SCADA, GIS, and Microsoft Office a plus.

Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical, instrumentation and plumbing preferred.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

WORK SUMMARY: Under general direction from Public Works Director, supervise Operators and Operator(s)-in-Training in the performance of operational duties and responsibilities at the wastewater treatment plant, perform public works tasks such as snow plowing on as needed basis, and provide support to other public work staff. Treatment plant tasks include overseeing all technical, operational, administrative, and regulatory functions of the treatment facility, including wastewater treatment and solids handling, and direct operations of Treatment Plant to ensure clean effluent and maintenance of proper standards in areas of process control, solids handling, land application of processed solids, and reporting requirements; track and comply with all regulatory requirements that apply to the Treatment Plant; oversee the laboratory operation, including all sampling, testing, quality control. Exercise direct authority and take responsibility for all plant functions and personnel; assure compliance with all approved policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; assist in the development and administration of operating and capital budgets; oversee capital budget and capital projects; oversee operating budget, maintain effective working relationship with all Fleetwood staff and officials; provide adequate training for treatment plant employees; assure safe operation of the Treatment Plant; provide for good community and public relations; direct operations purchase equipment and supplies.
