Local limits are one of the most important aspects of any pretreatment program.  Without appropriate local limits, any treatment plant that receives industrial waste could be subject to problems caused by wastes that are not compatible with the system resulting in inhibition of treatment processes, NPDES permit violations, sludge contamination, or physical damage to the treatment plant or collection system.  Whether you are a new or seasoned pretreatment coordinator, develop the local limits yourself or hire a consultant, it is important that you are familiar with the local limits development process to ensure that your system is protected.
